END OF TERM REPORT

Another season draws to a close for us and thoughts move towards the Christmas break.
What do you consider the highlights of your season?
When did you play your best golf?
Where did you enjoy yourself the most?
Who's company gave you the most pleasure?
What was your highlight watching golf this year?

One of the unique aspects of the human brain is its ability to REFLECT, to be able to look back on past experience and RECALL moments we have been through and enjoyed.

Our ability to RE-PRESENT sights, sounds, images and sensations is in many ways one of our greatest gifts.
I can't imagine your dog is now lying by the fire with a smile on his face over a bone he successfully chased down in a field a couple of weeks ago! Yet, how do you use this ability? Do you tend to reflect well on the things you have done, seen or experienced or are you constantly looking back with a mixture of regret or remorse?

It is a good time of year to look back but make sure you send your brain in the direction of pleasure, guide it to the good times, re experience your moments of excellence. This is not the flowery world of ‘positive thinking' rather a specific tool to find your own personal moments of success and examine the trail of clues these moments leave behind.

alt

Clues as to how you can repeat these moments more often in the future. It is your own brain and will respond to your own requests but, as we have said before, you have to ask the RIGHT QUESTIONS!

TAKE THIS TO HEART!!!!

Have you ever given any consideration to the fact your heart could actually have a BIG impact on the way you play golf and the scores that you produce?

Well, it could just be an area that you have NEVER really looked at but could produce some pretty amazing results.

Some of the language we use in everyday life does perhaps point to some intriguing links with the heart and peak performance.

"He played with all his HEART", "He has a HEART like a lion", "He put his HEART and soul into it"

A number of players now on the European Tour are now taking this information very seriously and looking at how the heart can impact their scoring ability, not as you would expect in the conventional sense of fitness, but in the way that the heart influences our psychology and state.

The Institute of HeartMath Research Centre in the USA conducts clinical studies and research on emotional physiology and heart brain interactions as well as research on the physiology of learning and performance.

Time and time again the research has shown that emotions are actually reflected in our heart rhythm patterns.

These patterns are transmitted from the heart to the higher brain centers and have a profound effect on the way that the brain processes information. Feelings of frustration and anxiety cause the heart rhythms to become more distorted and irregular which inhibits the higher brain centers.

In effect, when we lose control of our emotions our heart reacts sending messages of distress to the brain which then interrupt the ability of the brain to think clearly.
Consider the number of shots you have dropped over the years and the mistakes have cost you a winning score or a handicap reduction as a result of emotion running high and the inability to think clearly.

alt

In my own personal experience with HearthMath, I have found it to be a profoundly useful tool in the area of putting. Ordinarily a player can hit it in close, get over excited, the heart rate starts to jump and then, by the time they arrive at the green, the ability to think clearly, precisely and calmly are lost, robbing them of the effective state required to hole putts.

Also, very often as they leave the green having just missed a crucial putt which is instantly reflected in the score, they are again producing heart rhythms that are wildly out of control and then result in a poor tee shot and more dropped shots on the way.

Yet, if you work with this system and create a trigger of looking down and then up at the fringe of the green as you walk onto the putting surface and then get into a HeartMath focus and again just the same as you walk off the green you become so much more balanced and able to deal with whatever the game throws at them.

This process has proven to be effective in the sense that it is a ritual that ALLOWS the ‘Ideal Performance State' for putting.

The research is solid behind HeartMath, positive results have been gained in sports, education and business.

The simplicity of the tools is in my opinion its greatest strength and the cornerstone of its effectiveness. It is a system you NEED to have in your toolkit as a golfer. It could also be the case that if you find your ability to control your state through this process on a golf course, then you just might find yourself able to transfer the skill into some other more important areas of your life. Look at www.heartmath.com for more details.

DO YOU WANT CONSISTENCY?

All I need to say is that for most of us lining up correctly is a complete farce!
How can you ever be consistent if you don't take care of the basics?
Alignment, Width of Stance, Distance from the Ball, Clubface Alignment.
Over 50 European Tour Pros have now solved this issue with a product which I personally believe is one very well worth looking at.
