OPEN SEASON

Had the opportunity to have a look around Royal Liverpool as final preparations were taking place for the return of The Open in a couple of weeks time. Hoylake looked absolutely magnificent and I think will prove a popular venue.

Some of the holes out by the sea are really memorable and the change in layout of the course could well provide a dramatic finale to the tournament.

NLP Practitioner, Master Practitioner and Diploma in Sports Hypnosis: November 2006: Central Manchester.

The opportunities to be involved in mental game coaching are growing stronger and stronger. In all sports, the recognition of the part that mental game training needs to play in effective athlete preparation is now firmly established. Mental game coaching has to be PRACTICAL and APPLICABLE as opposed to academic theory.

THE POWER of EXPLANATIONS

How do you explain a bad day to yourself on the golf course (or anywhere else)? When things have gone South, how do you go over the events of the day in your mind?

It would seem that the WAY we go about explaining misfortune to ourselves could have a massive impact on the likelihood of the events being repeated and the long term impact of those events. Daniel Gilbert is a Harvard College Professor of Psychology and in his fascinating book ‘Stumbling on Happiness he says:
Explanations allow us to make full use of our experiences, but they also change the NATURE of those experiences.

For example, simply writing about a trauma - such as the death of a loved one or a physical assault - can lead to surprising improvements in both subjective well being and physical health (e.g. fewer visits to the physician and improved production of viral antibodies). What s more, the people who experienced the greatest benefits from these writing exercises are those whose writing contains an EXPLANATION of the trauma.

KEY LEARNING

I have to say that this great piece of research has changed my view on negative experiences as related to sport.

Just imagine after a particularly bad shot, hole or game you wrote an EXPLANATION of what happened and how it could be different. You could be saving yourself the pain of having to go through the same thing AGAIN at some point in the future.

DEALING WITH THE TRUTH
• Do you know your game? I mean REALLY know your game?
• Do you know what you need to work on to get better?
• Do you know what standard you need to be to be a Tour Pro?
• What handicap would Tiger Woods be?
I can only reinforce that if you REALLY want to improve at this game, then you need to deal with the FACTS about your game. One Tour Pro who I work with thought his putting was really weak, when in fact, detailed stats proved his poor driving just didn t allow him to knock the ball close enough on the greens to make any putts.

Now there are stats and there are stats!!

I say to you all that if you are serious about your game, then you need to take a look at :

www.strokeaverage.com

This is THE BEST in the WORLD in terms of statistical analysis and assistance for your game. Go to the web and type in TB1 and experience a FREE trial that will allow you to look at your game in a totally different light. I would go so far as to say that you CANNOT become the best player that you want to be without this groundbreaking system.
